I
was born & brought up in Yorkshire but have lived in Surrey
for the last 15 years. I first developed my observation &
draughtsmanship as a result of illustrating rocks & fossils
and am a completely self-taught artist. After working in the
oil industry & then within education, I turned full-time
professional in September 1999 and began exhibiting in 2002.
My
early style was that of the nature illustrator, being particularly
interested in illustrating birds, flowers & animals. After
visiting Australia in late 1999, I absorbed the distinctive
dotted style often associated with Aboriginal art. In much
of my work, I blend these two artistic strands into what I
believe is a unique vision of the natural world. Much of my
work includes patterns observed in nature and have produced
collections based on on desert landscapes, crop circles, geckos,
frogs, leaves and birds. In 2008, following the recent response
I've had to my painting of the London Eye (Twilight Eye),
I am about to embark on a landscape series based on global
iconic landmarks. I also paint some purely naturalistic subjects
- big cats, inspired by my own Bengal cat, lillies, giraffes,
birds and snakes so far and intend to expand my work in this
area also in 2008.
My
larger works can take up to 400 each hours to paint and my
continuing inspiration is my love of nature & wildlife.
Most of my works are in acrylics, only occasionally watercolour
pencil, and range from vibrant desert colours to subtle variations
of one or two colours and many of my works are textural as
well as colourful. I also sell high quality digitally reproduced
limited edition prints of many of my works at very affordable
prices. Prints can even be ordered up to twice their original
size.
