David
graduated from Surrey Institute of Fine Art and Design, Farnham
in 2001 with a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree and continued his
studies in 2003 with a MA Fine Art degree in Drawing from
Wimbledon School of Art.
His
oil paintings, pastels and drawings are concerned with portraying
the interaction of people in a variety of everyday situations
in cafes and bars. The work engages the viewer and one finds
oneself questioning the relationship between the figures
and creating a narrative between them.
He
has exhibited successfully at many art galleries in this
country and in 2003 was a Daler Rowney Prize inner in the
Drawing Open Exhibition at The Bracknell Gallery.
David
is a working artist and paints from his studio in Chertsey
and is a sessional tutor in Art and Design with the North
East Surrey College of Technology for Higher and Further
Education.

Statement
My interest is concerned with people and situations
specifically regarding the subject of human behaviour and
focusing on the concept of personal space and body language.
I
favour anonymity in the characters, attempting to capture
the essence through form and relying on suggestion and ambiguity.
The psychology of painting also interests me and, rather
than just the configuration itself, I imply a narrative
with tension between the figures.
Reflections
and the fragmentation of the image also fascinate me. My
paintings are taken from general observation and my intention
is for my work to make a statement about human behaviour
and the reaction and interaction to situations both conscious
and unconscious in today’s environment.
