Maureen Farr

I have been painting for over 20 years . In the early years my main tutor was Clare Hackney who inspired me with my on going love of colour and design. This is expressed through the use of still-life , landscape and life drawing.

I often incorporate all three in one piece of work, overlapping images so that the eye is taken around the paper or canvas. Using acrylic paint makes it possible to achieve texture as well as thin washes.

Collage is an added dimension which I use in small areas- this provides depth and a different feel to my work. The materials might be self-printed papers, coloured images or Japanese papers which I dye myself.

I have also experimented with semi – abstract work and the construction of opening panels.

Exhibitions include the Royal Institute of watercolours at the Mall Gallery, the 21st Century watercolour exhibition at Bankside London, Affordable Art Fair Battersea and the Chichester Open Contemporary exhibition.
