The
theme ‘Landscape of London and Other Places’
has enabled John to incorporate water as one of the
common elements of many of the works on show. The River
Thames plays a large role in this exhibition, along
with other waterways, such as the Grand Union Canal
and the village pond, near John’s home, in Harefield.
The
fluidity is very apparent in John’s paintings.
His Impressionist style oil paintings are inspired by
Alfred Sisley’s works in the early 1870s. The
paintings of the River Thames, in this collection, especially
illustrate the influence that Alfred Sisley’s
work has had on John.
John
lives life for today and this is very much reflected
in his paintings. By painting direct from life and aiming
to complete his works in one session, John really captures
the moment in his paintings. This attribute is portrayed
wonderfully in this exhibition.
