Alison Holt

Alison Holt is a textile artist whose work combines silk painting with free motion machine embroidery to create richly layered surfaces and textures. Using a basic sewing machine as a drawing tool, she produces detailed and expressive studies inspired by landscapes and the natural world

Her practice is driven by a long-standing fascination with light, colour, and pattern. Through the interplay of stitch and paint, Alison seeks to capture fleeting moments and personal memories, motivated by a desire to observe, record, and interpret her surroundings

Alison has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Textiles from Goldsmiths College, University of London, where she specialised in free-motion machine embroidery

With a career spanning over 40 years as a textile artist, tutor, and author, Alison has exhibited extensively in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. Recent highlights include selected exhibitions at the Mall Galleries and shows with several Royal Societies, including the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) and the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA), where she was awarded the Charles Pears Award

She is the co-curator of the biennial Stitch by Stitch Exhibition. She regularly exhibits with artist groups, at art fairs, and in galleries. Her work is held in numerous private collections in the UK and internationally
