Joanna Lloyd

After a career in Archaeology and environmental planning, Joanna returned to university to study glass part time at UCA in Farnham. She gained a BA then MA and was Artist in Residence for a year. During this time she was selected for the prestigious “Rising Stars”  Exhibition by the New Ashgate Gallery and Craft Council two years running.

Joanna specialises in cast glass techniques, A lengthy process that can take 6 weeks or more to create a piece. Multiple mould making, cold working and polishing require much patience and skill to create work. Joanna often uses nature as the base for her inspiration. The garden landscape, beach-combing and her previous career in archaeology all inform her work.  She creates texture in the glass taking it directly from nature and found objects. The results are heavily textured glass in bright and vibrant colours with the translucency and ethereal qualities that only glass can create.

Joanna is a member of The Society of Designer Craftsmen and the Contemporary Glass Society. She is part of the Wisley Gallery artists group at RHS Wisley Gardens.
