Evocative, striking sea and landscape paintings, opulent with vibrant colour and texture. Alongside the beautiful, luciously glazed hand thrown ceramics of Maria Murtagh.
Beverley and Maria share a fascination and delight in the landscape and natural world. Both explore these inspiring and challenging themes with shimmering colour, rich textures and exciting forms.
The glistening colour and tactile surfaces of Beverley’s imagery echo the changing moods of sea, land, river and sky. Her native Highlands and Islands of Scotland provide particular inspiration coupled to a joyous exploration of colour and surface in the studio. Her creative process ‘thinking with paint’ a conversation between inspiration, memory and her chosen materials.
Maria’s work is inspired by oriental ceramics and she will include Moon Jars, large platters and landscape pots in the exhibition. Her decorative techniques reflect her love of Japanese calligraphy, photographs of deep space from the Webb and Hubble telescopes and her obsession with traditional ceramics from Korea, China and Japan. Maria is celebrating 50 years as a potter in 2025.
