Elements & Colour — Sharon Withers and Janet Stanley

Vibrant Vistas: energetic abstract-landscape paintings of landscapes, woodlands and seascapes. Specialising in large-scale paintings.

“Elements & Colour” fuses Sharon Withers’ bold and abstracted landscape paintings with Janet Stanleys’ textural, abstracted, figurative sculptures.

This modern and exciting exhibition brings together two unique artists, both united through their energetic creations. Working with oil paints and mixed media sculpture, respectively, Sharon and Janet both uniquely approach traditional materials, to create wholly contemporary works of art.

Sharon Withers works directly onto canvases placed on the floor, entering a playful dance with her foundations, as she builds up multiple layers of painting to achieve immense depth and movement to her scenes. This dynamic and engaged painting process gives way to abstracted forms of the natural world, with the artist’s local Hampshire bluebell scenes, and striking Isle of Wight seascapes all informing her practice. The artist’s active creative process imbues her artworks with an invigorating energy, which spills out beyond the frames to breathe life into her collectors’ homes.

Figurative sculptor, Janet Stanley works primarily in clay and other modelling materials which are then cast in Bronze Resin or modelled directly using quick setting materials. This gives the opportunity to develop textures, surfaces and movement. Her work is inspired by nature and human interaction with it. The small figurative sculptures were first developed during Lockdown. As she was isolating, she observed the dynamics within the different groups out walking and the joy of being in nature and outdoor spaces.
